Finished Elegance

June’s here, which means it’s peak season for homebuyers and sellers. If you’re the latter, here are some simple home improvements you can do to stand out amongst the competition without breaking the bank.

Beautiful white picket fenced home

First, Clean Up

Did you know that a clean home could actually boost your appraisal value? Check out this article to see what else appraisers consider when calculating the market value of your property.

Clean, bright, and airy playroom

Getting rid of clutter and making your home “showroom ready” allows potential buyers to envision the space as their own.

Touch Up Your Paint

Putting aside personal tastes to make your home appeal to any buyer is easy with a coat of fresh, neutral paint. Take a tour of your home with a realtor to get an unbiased look into where your home needs updating. Some quick dry wall putty and new paint patches up most dings on walls, and looks like new after a few minutes.

Install Moulding

According to The National Association of Homebuilders, homebuyers are looking for unique details, like crown moulding and chair rails. Whether your home is historic, a new build, or anything in between, moulding can add character and accentuate features.

Choose which rooms are the star of your home and work from there. Check out this Houzz Article to see if installing crown moulding is a good option for your space.

Professional installation is a good option if you’re crunched for time and intend to install moulding in several rooms. However, if you’d like to cut labor costs, there are plenty of DIY moulding installation tutorials to guide you.

Beautiful example of Finished Elegance's impact in a family home

Using quality moulding—like our easy-to-install Finished Elegance—will simplify the installation process. Finished Elegance does not need to be painted so it is ready to install when purchased.

Dressing up your home is the perfect way to close your current chapter and move into a new one. Planning to put your home on the market soon? We’d love to hear your thoughts on how you plan to make it open-house ready.

When you think about moulding, what color comes to mind? I bet it’s a classic, clean white. White is one of the most popular colors for moulding, and that’s why we chose it for Finished Elegance, Woodgrain’s premier interior moulding line that is easy to install and requires no painting.

If your moulding is white, you can select a color for your walls, or even ceiling, that creates a unique space. Are you painting the walls in a room with Finished Elegance already installed? Because of its unique coating, you can easily wipe any mistakes or spills on Finished Elegance right off!

Below are some examples of beautiful, stand-out rooms where the moulding and color really make an impact. Which one is your favorite?

Pinewold Cottage, Portland, Maine

The combination of moulding styles in this room makes the ceilings feel taller while simultaneously creating a cozy feel.

Casual Elegance Master Bedroom, New York

This room’s designer chose an understated blue for the wall color that emphasizes the dramatic white moulding beautifully.

Sonoma House, San Francisco, California

This designer utilizes different shades of tiger-eye to create a monochromatic color scheme that showcases moulding throughout the home.

If you want to experiment with bold color without painting an entire room, consider an accent. For inspiration, check out this blue strip between moulding in this cheerful dining room.

Remember, your ceiling can make an impact as well. This room showcases neutral walls, white moulding, and a deep blue ceiling for a contemporary feel.

For more inspiration to jumpstart ideas for your home, check out this gallery on Houzz. If you aren’t sure which color to pick for your walls or ceiling, consider Pantone’s color of the year as a starting place: Greenery

We would like to know where you stand on color. Please share your ideas with us in the comments below.

According to the Rush University Medical Center in Chicago, post-Super Bowl Blues are real, and not to be taken lightly. As a huge football fan myself, I can definitely relate. But why would I bring this up now when we’re in the throes of anticipation of the game?

Because no matter your team, scheduling some weekend activities to fill the Sunday football void will smooth the transition to off-season. Here are some weekend projects I recommend to take your mind off those (soon-to-be) empty Sundays:

Wainscoting

Wainscoting encompasses a wide variety of paneling styles and is used to enhance many different interior spaces, including mantels, stairways, home galleries, and more. DIY blog Sunlit Spaces has a great list of wainscoting ideas here. When picking the style, consider the impact you want to make in your room. Do you prefer a formal look, or something more casual? Traditional or modern? Would you like to make a statement in the room or do you prefer a more subdued style? There are a lot of options!

A common style that fits many spaces is two-tone wainscoting. If this look is right for your home, I recommend purchasing Finished Elegance for an easy, durable installation.

Replace a door and repurpose the old one

Most of us have at least one pesky door nagging to be replaced – whether the style is dated, it blocks too much light, or the pets have ruined it. Replacing a door can transform an entire room. The first steps to replacing a door are choosing style and materials. Vanessa Brunner of Houzz has a great guide to selecting interior doors here. You can see a collection of customizable styles from Woodgrain here.

Once you’ve replaced the door, consider repurposing it. CountryLiving suggests 17 ideas ranging from entertainment console (for when football season finally returns!) to hanging picnic tables for summer entertaining.

Moulding art

Hear me out. Moulding art may sound like the worst possible football replacement, but Better Homes and Gardens has some awesome ideas here. My favorites are the kids’ art gallery and the headboard.

These three ideas are just the start – once you get on a roll, you may find that home improvement projects are the perfect football replacement. (OK, that’s clearly an exaggeration, but you can see where I’m coming from.) Let us hear about your results, and in the meantime, go Broncos!

Holidays are settling down and the year is coming to an end. How many of you are returning to your 2015 New Year’s resolutions before crafting new ones for 2016? If you’re like me and many others, you had some sort of home improvement project on your list for the year. If that project was installing moulding, I’d like to offer a few tips to help you wrap up that up.

It’s no secret that I highly recommend Finished Elegance® – the most durable, flawless, and easy-to-install moulding on the market. For the person trying to wrap up a moulding project with a limited time frame, there’s just no better option. You can see the steps required to install traditional moulding compared to installing Finished Elegance below:

Finished Elegance Steps

Because Finished Elegance is already coated with Eastman Cerfis Technology, it does not require painting. The benefit to you: less time to install and less frustration. You can see a video of the installation process here:

Screen Shot 2015-12-23 at 3.36.30 PM

Whether you elect traditional moulding or Finished Elegance, here are some tips to help you get started and finish your project:

    1. Educate yourself first. Pick your moulding type, and dedicate the time needed based on the size of your space. YouTube is a great resource not just for cat videos, but for tutorials on installing moulding, as well.
    2. Measure twice! Take time to make sure your measurements are accurate. Once you’re in the store, purchase the amount of moulding you think you need PLUS 15% more. Measurement mistakes are almost inevitable, and having that extra moulding will save you a trip back to the store.
    3. It’s all about the tools. I highly recommended using a nail gun and miter saw for the smoothest installation process. If you don’t have these tools at home, you can borrow them from a friend or rent them.

Best of luck completing your resolution home improvement projects, and Happy New Year from all of us here at Woodgrain!

Is it already December? It’s hard to believe, but winter holidays are upon us, and my wife has been happily decorating our home for Christmas. Her enthusiasm inspired me to share some easy DIY holiday ideas using wood you may find around your home or that can be purchased inexpensively at your nearby Home Depot or other hardware store.

This first project idea came from a festive purchase my wife just made: a dowel Christmas tree. If you have some basic tools and 30 minutes to spare, you can follow this excellent tutorial from lifestyle blogger Rubyellen of Cakies. Don’t have dowels around? For a selection of dowels to purchase for the project, click here.

Did you just replace your old moulding with Finished Elegance? Don’t throw it away just yet! Courtney from Diamond in the Stuff recommends using scrap wood and moulding to create a festive Christmas tree. Add different shades of green paint for a quick and fun way to recycle leftover pieces. For a Hanukkah celebration, follow Randi’s advice from Sowdering About in Seattle to create an antiqued Happy Hanukkah sign with scrap wood.

Need a centerpiece for family gatherings? Robin from Happy at Home has a quick tutorial for a custom wooden statement piece using scrap 1X4s and 1X2s. She decorated her centerpiece with stones, but you could use wide candles, greenery, or ornaments. A versatile piece, no matter your occasion.

I hope this list inspires you to be creative this holiday season. Comment below to let us know how your projects turn out!

Finished Elegance

Wondering if Finished Elegance moulding is right for your home? We’ve answered some frequently asked questions below to help you make the decision.

  1. How does Finished Elegance differ from traditional moulding?
The main difference is that Finished Elegance is coated on all four sides and requires no painting. It comes installation-ready.
  2. How does the Finished Elegance coating compare to traditional painted millwork?
Finished Elegance is coated (not painted) on all four sides with Eastman Cerfis™ technology. Cerfis technology was developed and patented by Eastman Chemical Company, and Woodgrain Millwork is the only North American manufacturer to use this proprietary technology. The result is precise, consistent, and customizable coating that provides superior durability. If you need moulding that will hold up over time, Finished Elegance is exactly what you’re looking for.
  3. If Finished Elegance costs more than traditional moulding, how am I saving money?
Since Finished Elegance requires no painting, the upfront cost is offset by the time, materials, and overhead savings.
  4. How do I install Finished Elegance?
Install Finished Elegance in three easy steps: First, cut the moulding to fit your wall. Then, install the pieces with traditional moulding installation tools. Finally, fill/caulk to create a seamless finish. Click here to see the easy installation process in action.
  5. What profile options do I have with Finished Elegance?
Finished Elegance has 55 unique profiles to complete any room in your home. Profiles include primary applications and decorative moulding applications such as build-ups, judges paneling and architraves. To see the available profiles and select the right one for your home, please click here.
  6. Can I paint Finished Elegance?
While Finished Elegance requires no painting, it can be painted should you opt to change the color. If you are going to paint Finished Elegance we encourage you to take the following steps:
    1. Scuff with general purpose scuff pad or equivalent (320 grit or higher)
    2. Wipe clean with damp towel/cloth and allow to dry before painting

If you paint Finished Elegance, the paint can only dry from the outside in due to the coating. Therefore, dry times may be longer than normal.

Does Finished Elegance sound right for you? You can purchase Finished Elegance at The Home Depot stores as well as many ProDealers (lumberyards and door shops). Click here for buying locations near you.

Finished Elegance® is proud to introduce two new videos. Found online at finishedelegance.com as well as on our YouTube channel, these videos show the overall value and ease of installation of this innovative interior moulding line.

In “Benefits of Finished Elegance”, you can listen to the user experiences of a prodealer, builder, installer and homeowner who have just used our products to complete a home in Cleveland, Tennessee. With coating (No Painting Required) on all four sides, Finished Elegance saved our professional customers both time and money during the installation process. Virtually maintenance free, the homeowner could rest assured that the grandeur of her home would be preserved through the product’s rigidity and durability, and the building professionals could leave knowing they left a satisfied customer.

“Installing Finished Elegance” illustrates the ease of installation from the installer, builder and homeowner perspectives. By listening to the user experiences as well as watching the step-by-step installation process, it is clear that Cut-Install-Fill/Caulk is as easy as it sounds. With perfect, clean cuts and no painting required, the coated moulding went up quicker and easier than commodity products, which benefited all involved. Once installed, the pros finished the job with our accompanying color-match caulk and wax fill stick to create a silky-smooth furniture finish.
