Color Countdown: 2017 Colors of the Year

Every year Pantone Color Institute announces its pick for color of the year. According to Pantone, the color is supposed to be a “snapshot of what we see taking place in our global culture that serves as an expression of a mood and an attitude.”

For 2017, Pantone picked a bright and cheery shade of yellow-green called Greenery.

However, Pantone wasn’t the only organization boasting their #1 color of the year. Paint companies also chimed in. The winners included various shades of purple like Benjamin Moore’s Shadow, PPG’s Violet Verbena, Olympic’s Cloudberry and Glidden’s Byzantine Blue, as well as warm neutral grays like Kelly-Moore’s Kettleman and Sherwin-Williams’ Poised Taupe and finally Dunn-Edwards’ Honey Glow.

As 2017 comes to an end, we thought it would be fun to highlight some of our favorite photos of homes boasting the various 2017 colors of the year on our Pinterest board.

Jumping on the purple bandwagon, Pantone recently announced their 2018 color of the year: Ultra Violet. According to Pantone, this deep, dramatic shade of purple “suggests the mysteries of the cosmos, the intrigue of what lies ahead, and the discoveries beyond where we are now.” Check out this article from Houzz.com to discover the full list of diverse paint color selections that are sure to be a hit in 2018.
